You found a solid dresser at St. Vincent de Paul. The drawers work, the dimensions fit your bedroom, and the price makes sense.
Then you look at your car.
Before paying, ask the cashier to price and schedule delivery. If the store cannot deliver to your address or on a workable date, arrange an independent pickup while you still have access to the furniture’s dimensions, item tag, and collection instructions.
Here’s how to get the piece from the sales floor into your home.
Start by asking the store to book delivery
Tell the employee which furniture you want and where it needs to go. Ask for the delivery price and the next available appointment.
Some St. Vincent de Paul stores publish a purchase-delivery service. For example, the Dubuque, Iowa store lists a $35 delivery fee for an item or items purchased there, with fees subject to change.
That is a local store price, not a nationwide St. Vincent de Paul rate.
For that store, shoppers can speak with staff at 4990 Radford Court, Dubuque, or call 563-582-3733 to ask about arranging purchase delivery.

Dubuque’s published store policy, checked October 26, 2026.
Give staff your address and describe where the furniture needs to end up. “Deliver a dresser” leaves an important question unanswered if your bedroom is upstairs.
Ask whether the offered service includes unloading, entering the building, stairs, and placement in the room. The Dubuque page publishes a fee but does not specify those details.
Put the delivery date alongside the furniture price
A delivery service is useful when its appointment works for your purchase.
Ask the cashier to arrange the date before you leave. If staff need to call you back, get the next step and find out how the furniture will be held while scheduling is completed.
Dubuque’s policy says items left uncollected after two days may be resold unless the store is contacted. It also states that store purchases cannot be returned and that store credit is unavailable. Those terms make transportation part of the buying decision.
Your location may use different terms. Get the collection deadline for your purchase rather than relying on another store’s policy.
If you arrange your own pickup, book it within that window.
If you need independent delivery, book the complete trip
Laborhutt is an option for transporting a St. Vincent de Paul purchase to your home.
Start a Laborhutt booking using the store’s collection address as the pickup location and your home as the destination.
The current booking process is:
- Enter the pickup and delivery addresses.
- Select the furniture being moved.
- Review the price by date and choose an available option.
- Pay to book. Laborhutt then assigns a vetted mover.
Use the collection address provided by staff. Ask whether furniture leaves through the main entrance, a loading door, or another collection area.
Before booking, describe the work at home as well as the furniture. Include the floor, stairs, elevator, parking, and the room where each piece should be placed. If you cannot help lift, state that clearly.
You can also visit Laborhutt’s St. Vincent de Paul furniture pickup and delivery page to start planning the move.
Arrange permission for the mover to collect without you
If you will not be at the store, ask staff how to authorize another person to collect your purchase.
Have them explain what the collector needs to present. It may involve a receipt, item number, written authorization, or identification. Use your store’s actual instructions.
Once a mover is assigned, send the collection information and photos of the purchased pieces. Include loose components such as table leaves, shelves, legs, or bed rails.
A useful item list is specific:
One dresser with six drawers and one separate mirror. Collect both pieces using the store-approved release instructions. Deliver to the second-floor bedroom; one flight of stairs, no elevator. I cannot help lift.
That gives the mover a clearer job than “pick up my furniture.”
Store loading help does not arrange the carry upstairs
Ask staff what loading help they can provide. Then tell the mover exactly what has been agreed.
Even if store employees load the furniture, someone still has to unload it at your address and carry it inside. Arrange enough help for that end of the trip.
Before buying a bulky piece, measure its route into the home. Check doorways, elevator openings, stair landings, and tight turns. Photograph awkward access so the mover can assess it before collection.
If legs, doors, or other parts must be removed, include that work in the request and confirm whether the price covers it.
Compare delivery totals for the same job
Start with the store’s own service when it is available. A published local fee such as Dubuque’s $35 may be worth exploring before booking separate transportation.
Compare the actual arrangements:

For illustration, a $120 dresser plus a $35 delivery fee totals $155 before any applicable tax or other charges. The dresser price is hypothetical; the $35 delivery fee is the published Dubuque example.
Use your own furniture price and confirmed delivery total to decide whether the purchase works for your budget.
Donation pickup is a different booking
If you are buying furniture, ask for delivery of a purchase.
A donation-pickup service collects items someone is giving to the organization. It does not establish that the same truck will bring a store purchase home.
If you are receiving furniture through an assistance or voucher program, ask the local program how transportation is arranged and whether any delivery charge applies. Do not assume the shopping and transportation arrangements are the same.
Leave with a delivery plan
Before walking away from the sales counter, have either a store delivery appointment or a collection window you can use to book transportation.
For independent delivery, check a Laborhutt price, include the full item list and home access, and complete the store’s release instructions for the assigned mover.
The purchase is ready for your home when its trip is arranged all the way to the room.
