Dolly vs Lugg vs Laborhutt before you book a truck and two movers

A truck solves the transport part. You still need someone to carry the furniture out, protect it, and get it into the room where it belongs.

That is the job to compare when choosing between Dolly, Lugg and Laborhutt. A low price for one mover is little help if you need two people to carry a couch. An upfront estimate also means something different from a fixed booking price.

There is a name change to know first: Dolly is now Taskrabbit Delivery. Its moving and delivery service continues under that name. It remains a separate booking experience from the main Taskrabbit marketplace, where you hire Taskers for individual jobs.

But compare the complete job: Lugg also offers fixed pricing on qualifying store deliveries, and it can be competitive.

What you are buying from each service

Taskrabbit Delivery lists store deliveries, used-item pickups, small moves and labor-only help as distinct services. Choose the one that includes the transport you need. Its upfront-price promise is on its current services page.

Dolly has a new name without becoming an hourly Tasker booking

If you used Dolly before, the Taskrabbit name can make the service confusing. You do not have to start browsing individual Tasker profiles just because the branding changed.

Taskrabbit Delivery says the booking process continues through its delivery app or website, and pricing structures did not change as part of the transition. The main Taskrabbit marketplace is a separate experience. An hourly moving-help rate from a Tasker is therefore a different offer from a Taskrabbit Delivery quote.

For your quote, describe what happens at each end. “One couch” leaves out the third-floor pickup, the narrow landing and whether the legs need removing. Those details determine whether the quoted service matches the work.

With Lugg the pickup location can change the pricing model

Lugg has two pricing models worth separating.

A standard move charges for the vehicle, mileage, labor minutes and booking fee. There is no hourly minimum. Stairs have no separate surcharge, although carrying furniture upstairs adds work time. Qualifying partner store deliveries instead have a fixed booking price with no per-minute labor. Store and location eligibility matter.

On standard moves, the labor clock covers work at your stops. That includes wrapping, loading, carrying furniture inside and waiting for an elevator or gate. The clock pauses while the crew drives between stops. Traffic does not add labor minutes.

That distinction changes how you should prepare. Have the seller ready, arrange building access and clear the carrying route. A short drive can still involve substantial work before and after the drive.

For a store purchase, check the booking for Final price. Adding another nonpartner stop, such as a storage unit after your home, can switch the route back to standard pricing with labor charges.

A live route check showed why a flat price does not guarantee the lowest price

On October 14, 2026, we checked Lugg’s public calculator using two public Dallas-area locations: Nebraska Furniture Mart at 5300 Nebraska Furniture Mart Drive in The Colony, and IKEA at 7171 IKEA Drive in Frisco.

For Lugg Pickup, listed with two movers, the calculator showed:

Changing the labor slider from 30 to 60 minutes left the total at $97.90, with no labor charge. The calculator still labeled the result an estimate; it was not a completed booking.

Laborhutt’s pricing system returned $128.70 for October 15 and $99 for October 21 for those same addresses and one large item. Two movers were confirmed for that couch-move scope. These were quotes retrieved on October 14, not customer bills or typical national prices.

Lugg’s calculator did not have a service date selected, and Laborhutt’s date price did not confirm an exact appointment time. The Lugg result was lower than both Laborhutt figures, but these were not identical bookable appointments.

The useful lesson is straightforward: compare your actual route, and check another date if you have flexibility. “Flat rate” describes how a price works. It does not establish which service costs less.

Do you need two movers or are you willing to help

Make this decision before comparing totals.

Lugg Lite lists one mover. Lugg Pickup and Van list two. A one-mover option can suit smaller items, but it is a different service from having a crew handle a bulky couch without your lifting help.

For any service, describe the help you need in plain terms:

“I need two movers to carry this couch from inside the pickup address into my living room. I cannot help lift it.”

Then include the couch dimensions, stairs at both addresses, elevator access and any disassembly. Ask whether the vehicle can accommodate the item, particularly for a sectional or sleeper sofa.

Keep the destination specific. Curbside, lobby delivery and carrying a couch upstairs into your apartment involve different amounts of work.

Where Laborhutt fits

Laborhutt is worth comparing when you want a local furniture move priced before you book and can consider more than one pickup date.

The current booking flow prices the move by date, takes payment and assigns a vetted mover. For the route above, choosing October 21 instead of October 15 reduced the quoted total by $29.70. That is a reason to check the calendar before promising a seller you will collect tomorrow.

If the item must leave today, confirm the pickup timing first. If a store can hold your purchase, compare the available dates before choosing one. In both cases, make sure the price covers the carrying and crew you actually need.

For a store delivery with a fixed Lugg booking price, compare that total directly. For Taskrabbit Delivery, use the quote for your specific task. For Laborhutt, check the date options with the same item and access details.
