Get your Big Reuse find home before the five days are up

You found the dresser, dining table, or salvaged door you wanted at Big Reuse. The next decision is how to get it out of the store and into your home.

Big Reuse says purchases must be collected within five days. After that, uncollected items are treated as abandoned and put back on sale. It also says it does not provide delivery for store or online purchases.

Before leaving the store, get the details your mover will need

A photo of the price tag tells you what the item costs. It does not tell the mover whether it will fit in the vehicle.

Take photos of the whole item and record its length, width, and height. If a table’s legs detach, ask whether they can be removed before collection. If you are buying several pieces, photograph and list all of them.

Then ask staff:

• What is the last date I can collect this purchase?
• What collection hours should my mover use?
• What receipt, order reference, or permission is needed if someone else collects it?
• Where should the vehicle stop, and where will the item be handed over?
• Will anyone help with loading, or should my mover provide all the carrying help?

Use the answers to arrange the job. Do not count store staff as part of the moving crew unless they have confirmed that help.

A salvaged door and a box of tiles need different information

Big Reuse sells furniture, appliances, and building materials. That makes the item details especially important.

For a door or long piece of timber, send the full dimensions. For tiles or other dense materials, give the number of boxes and their total weight if known. For an appliance, identify the model and explain the access at your destination.

If you are collecting several purchases together, include them in the request before the move is priced. An extra cabinet or stack of materials changes the load the mover needs to handle.

For unusually heavy or fragile items, confirm that the mover has suitable equipment and enough carrying help before committing to the booking.

The delivery needs to reach the place you want the item

Getting a cabinet to your building’s entrance still leaves you with a cabinet to carry upstairs.

Tell the mover your floor, whether there is an elevator, and where the item should finish. If your building requires a reserved elevator or a certificate of insurance, check those arrangements before choosing the delivery date.

Measure the doorway and the tightest turn on the way in. For a tall cabinet, check the elevator opening as well as the space inside it. A piece that fits in the truck can still be difficult to get around your stairwell.

Resolve those questions before collection, while the item is still at the store.

If you bought online, confirm where the order is waiting

Big Reuse’s published policy says online purchases must be paid in full before being prepared for pickup, and collected from its Gowanus location at 1 12th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11215.

Confirm that the order is ready and ask what your mover needs to present. Keep the order reference with the collection instructions so the correct purchase can be identified.

If you cannot attend, agree on the collection arrangement with both the store and the mover before sending someone over.
