GoShare vs Lugg: We priced one couch move three ways

A couch pickup can look cheaper until it takes ten more minutes to carry.

For the same street addresses, Lugg’s public estimator showed $99.85 with 30 minutes of loading and unloading. Increasing that allowance to 40 minutes changed the total to $117.18, including the booking fee.

Laborhutt showed $112.88 for the selected move date. GoShare’s pickup-truck-and-helper estimate was $147.71.

Lugg had the lowest estimate at 30 minutes. Laborhutt was lower than Lugg’s 40-minute estimate and GoShare’s project estimate.

For a furniture pickup you want to budget before buying the item, we recommend checking Laborhutt first. Its fixed-price model gives you an amount to compare against estimates that depend on how long the work takes.

Here is what the three prices covered.

The couch pickup we compared

We checked prices on October 17, 2026, using this hypothetical move:

Both addresses are public storage locations used as reference points. This was a quote comparison, not a completed customer move.

The comparison concerns one couch pickup. It does not establish average prices for either service or predict what another route will cost.

GoShare, Lugg and Laborhutt’s displayed prices

These are displayed totals rather than advertised starting fares. No promotions or tips were entered. They are not paid final invoices.

The scheduling screens differed. GoShare was set to 10 a.m. Pacific time. Lugg’s booking flow offered October 21 from 10 to 11 a.m., but its full dollar estimate came from the public calculator, which has no date field. Laborhutt showed a price for October 21 without an arrival window selected.

GoShare’s $147.71 included a driver and helper

The estimate displayed an 11-minute drive covering 2.2 miles.

It also specified separate time allowances: 53 minutes for the driver and 55 minutes for the helper. Beyond those allowances, the screen listed $1.84 per minute for the driver and $1.20 per minute for the helper.

Those allowances differ from Lugg’s loading-and-unloading minutes. Comparing the totals does not mean both services include identical amounts of time.

No optional equipment or assembly was added. GoShare’s FAQ also lists tolls, parking and additional equipment among possible reasons a bill can exceed its estimate.

For your own move, check that the crew can complete the carrying without your help. A lower estimate for a driver alone is a different purchase from a vehicle with enough people to handle the couch.

Lugg’s $99.85 included its booking fee

Lugg’s public estimator gave this breakdown for its two-mover Pickup option:

The platforms calculated mileage independently. Lugg’s calculator displayed three miles, while GoShare displayed 2.2 miles for the same street addresses.

At $99.85, Lugg’s estimate was $13.03 below Laborhutt’s displayed price. A prepared pickup with straightforward access could make that lower estimate attractive.

But the labor allowance deserves as much attention as the driving distance.

Ten more minutes changed which price was lower

We increased the labor allowance in Lugg’s calculator while keeping the addresses and Pickup vehicle unchanged.

Ten more minutes increased the estimate by $17.33. The booking fee changed along with the labor charge.

At 30 minutes, Lugg was $13.03 below Laborhutt. At 40 minutes, it was $4.30 above.

These are calculator scenarios, not measured completion times. They show how the comparison changes when carrying takes longer.

Before choosing a labor allowance, think about where the couch will be waiting. Is it beside an accessible entrance? Does it need wrapping? Will someone have to clear a hallway or remove other furniture before it can leave?

Lugg says standard bookings charge labor by the minute. Qualifying partner-store deliveries follow separate fixed-price rules, so check which pricing model applies to your purchase.

Why we recommend starting with Laborhutt

Laborhutt showed $112.88 total for October 21 after we selected the same addresses and one large item. Its large-item category explicitly includes couches.

That amount was:

  • $34.83 below GoShare’s estimate.
  • $13.03 above Lugg’s 30-minute estimate.
  • $4.30 below Lugg’s 40-minute estimate.

The reason to choose Laborhutt here is the ability to establish a fixed price for the described work before moving day. Laborhutt advertises fixed pricing before booking. See Laborhutt’s booking process.

That matters when delivery determines whether a furniture purchase makes sense.

A hypothetical $200 couch with a $112.88 move costs $312.88 to acquire, before any other purchase costs. Knowing the moving price before paying the seller lets you decide whether to buy, negotiate or keep looking.

The Laborhutt price screen collected an item count rather than exact couch dimensions or a written access description. Share those details and confirm the crew, carrying requirements and timing before paying. A fixed price is most useful when everyone understands the work it covers.

Give every service the same carrying job

“Move a couch five miles” leaves important details unanswered.

A more useful request would read:

One three-seat sofa, 84 inches long. Ground-floor pickup and delivery into the living room. No stairs or disassembly. Two movers required because neither customer will help lift. The seller is available Wednesday morning.

Add photos and disclose any long hallway, tight doorway, elevator reservation or loading restriction.

Then check the part of each offer that affects your decision:

A quote for furniture waiting outside should not be compared with a quote that includes retrieving it from an upstairs room.

Book around the seller’s availability

A low price is only useful if the pickup can happen when someone is there to release the item.

Before booking, get the seller’s available window, exact pickup location and contact details. Ask whether the couch will be ready to leave or whether the mover needs to carry it out of the home.

At delivery, arrange access to the room where you want it placed. Tell the service about building restrictions before choosing a time.

For this comparison, Lugg had the lowest estimate with 30 minutes of labor. Laborhutt offered a fixed price between that estimate and Lugg’s 40-minute scenario, while GoShare’s estimate was higher with different time allowances.

We recommend starting with Laborhutt when you want to settle the moving budget before committing to the furniture. Get its price for the complete job, then compare equivalent GoShare and Lugg options.
