U-Haul Mileage Calculator

Calculate U-Haul mileage fees for an in-town rental. Enter your distance and per-mile rate to see your mileage charge plus the daily rate breakdown.

U-Haul in-town rentals charge a low daily rate plus a per-mile fee, typically $0.79–$1.19 per mile. To find your mileage cost, multiply your estimated miles by the per-mile rate, then add the daily rate. Example: a 10' truck at $19.95/day plus 30 miles at $0.99/mile is $19.95 + $29.70 = $49.65 before fees, fuel, and tax.

Common questions about U-Haul costs and this calculator

In-town (round-trip) U-Haul rentals typically charge between $0.79 and $1.19 per mile on top of a low daily rate, though rates vary by location, truck size, and demand — some markets run higher. One-way rentals work differently: they bundle a set mileage allowance into a flat rate and bill excess miles at about $1.00 per mile.

In-town pricing has two parts: a flat daily rate (from $19.95/day for a 10' truck up to $49.95/day for a 26' truck) plus a per-mile charge for every mile you drive. Your mileage fee is simply estimated miles × the per-mile rate. So a 20-mile trip at $0.99/mile adds $19.80 in mileage on top of the daily rate.

No. The per-mile fee is U-Haul's charge for use of the truck — it does not cover fuel. You pay for gas separately at the pump, and U-Haul trucks get poor mileage (8–12 MPG for box trucks). Use our U-Haul Gas Calculator to estimate fuel on top of the mileage fee.

Take the most direct route, avoid extra trips, and return the truck to the same location for in-town rentals. If your move is long-distance, a one-way rental with a bundled mileage allowance is usually cheaper than paying per mile. Or skip mileage fees entirely by hiring a local mover on Laborhutt — mileage and fuel are built into their quote.

Skip the truck, the driving, and the gas

Local movers on Laborhutt bring their own truck and do the heavy lifting — mileage and fuel are built into one upfront quote. Often cheaper than a DIY U-Haul.
