Taskrabbit vs Lugg for moving in NYC
If you need a couch moved across New York City, compare the vehicle, number of movers, and minimum bill before comparing the advertised price.

Taskrabbit is a useful place to choose a specific mover, hire help for a truck you already have, or arrange packing and unpacking. Lugg is a practical option for furniture that is ready to move when you want a crew and vehicle booked together. The better price depends on the scope and how long the work takes.
There is also a third option within the Taskrabbit brand: Taskrabbit Delivery offers an upfront fixed price. Its booking process differs from Taskrabbit's hourly Tasker marketplace.
Prices checked October 12, 2026. All amounts are in U.S. dollars.
The differences that matter for a move

Taskrabbit's current policy separates help that needs no Tasker-provided vehicle from truck-assisted and full-service categories. In the vehicle categories, the vehicle cost belongs in the hourly rate. Ask what vehicle and crew the rate includes.
Lugg can also help when you already have a rental truck or need furniture moved within one building. Labor-only work is available on both platforms. Lugg labor-only help. Lugg's packing policy distinguishes boxed belongings from wrapping and protecting furniture.
How much does Taskrabbit cost for moving
Taskrabbit's moving cost guide, updated October 1, 2026, reports a U.S. average of $40 per hour. Its NYC table lists $56 per hour and an average invoice total of $163. These are broad moving benchmarks assembled from platform data and market research, with no published sample count for those figures. They do not specify a two-mover crew and truck for every job.
The NYC full-service page separately advertises prices starting at $49 per hour. A starting price is not a quote for your couch, building, and route.
In a live Brooklyn search for a small, truck-required Full Service Help Moving task, the first ten recommended listings displayed hourly rates from $61.94 to $206.48. The listings included different vehicles, crew arrangements, and minimums. Three examples show why the hourly number needs context:

These are dated listing observations, not completed customer bills. The last column uses the displayed rate and minimum. It excludes any fees, taxes, expenses, or tips not already included in that displayed rate.

Taskrabbit applies a Service Fee and, in New York, a Trust & Support Fee. Check the final breakdown and which charges are already included in the rate you see. The public fee policy does not give one universal percentage for every booking.
The platform minimum is one hour, with billing in 15-minute increments afterward. Taskers may set a higher minimum. A 40-minute job can therefore carry a one-hour or two-hour minimum charge, depending on the Tasker. Taskrabbit minimum billing policy.
How much does Lugg cost for moving
A standard Lugg move combines a base fare, mileage, labor minutes, and a variable booking fee. Its general published rate table provides this starting reference:

These are general published rates, not an NYC quote. A booking fee is additional, and rates vary by city.
A live Brooklyn estimate
For an illustrative route from Brooklyn Borough Hall to Brooklyn Public Library's Central Library, Lugg's estimator calculated three billable miles. With the labor slider set to 30 minutes for both vehicles, it displayed:

The live labor rates were $1.94 per minute for Pickup and $2.42 for Van. Both exceeded the general published rates above. Use your local estimate to budget. These public landmarks were test locations, not a customer move, and vehicle fit was not confirmed. The amounts are estimates before any tip, not guaranteed completed-move prices.
Lugg pauses its labor clock while the crew drives between stops. At each stop, labor includes parking, wrapping, carrying, basic disassembly, and waiting for access. Getting the couch ready and reserving the elevator can reduce the time needed.
Stairs have no separate Lugg access surcharge, but they can add labor minutes on a standard move. Eligible partner-store deliveries use a fixed price without per-minute labor instead. Routes over 30 miles can also incur an additional distance fee.
What NYC request data adds to the comparison
In Laborhutt's sample of 244 NYC moving requests from January through September 2026, 159, or 65.2%, listed one unit. A unit can represent a piece of furniture, a box, or a generic load. Among the 126 requests with notes, 68, or 54.0%, mentioned stairs or elevators, including statements that stairs were absent.
That is a reason to price a small move around the item and building access. It is not evidence that one provider is cheaper across NYC.
Four historical Laborhutt requests illustrate the details worth supplying to either service:

These were quotes on unfinished requests and were not customer-paid totals or Taskrabbit or Lugg prices. The differences do not establish a stairs surcharge, an evening premium, or a typical NYC range.

For an 84-inch couch, send its length, depth, and height before the vehicle arrives. Include photos, detachable sections, stairs at both ends, elevator dimensions, and the seller's pickup deadline. A lower price helps only if the vehicle and crew can complete the move.
When Taskrabbit makes sense
Choose the hourly marketplace when selecting a particular worker matters, or when the job includes packing, unpacking, and other help around the move. If you already have a truck, search the labor categories. If the Tasker must provide transportation, use the appropriate vehicle category.
Taskrabbit can be economical when the hourly rate, crew, and minimum suit your job. For a short furniture pickup, check the minimum first. Confirm whether a second mover is included or needs a separate booking. The live search contained both arrangements, so the hourly rate alone cannot settle the comparison.
For budget certainty, also get a Taskrabbit Delivery quote. It supplies truck and moving help with an upfront price, making it a closer alternative to a bundled delivery service. Keep that quote separate from an hourly Tasker estimate.
When Lugg makes sense
Choose Lugg when the furniture is ready for pickup and you want a vehicle and crew arranged together. Its standard pricing is useful for short jobs because labor has no hourly minimum. A larger vehicle raises both the base fare and labor rate, so choose the smallest suitable option after checking dimensions.
For urgent pickup, Lugg advertises on-demand arrival in as little as 30 minutes and scheduling up to 60 days ahead. Treat that as a service offering and check current availability against the seller's actual window. Taskrabbit also offers same-day scheduling through available Taskers.
Have boxes packed before Lugg arrives. Basic furniture disassembly is available, but packing and organizing belongings are outside its service.
Compare the complete job before booking
Give each service the same item list, route, access details, and pickup window. Then check:
- The vehicle's usable cargo space and whether your furniture fits.
- The number of movers included and any help you are expected to provide.
- The minimum billable time and what counts as working time.
- The full price breakdown, including fees, taxes, agreed expenses, and optional tip.
- Your building's elevator reservation and Certificate of Insurance requirements.
Lugg can provide a COI on request. Some Taskrabbit listings also offer one; confirm with the provider and building before choosing a slot.
For ready furniture, start with Lugg and Taskrabbit Delivery estimates. For packing or a move where you want to choose the worker, start with Taskrabbit's hourly marketplace. Compare the cost of the crew and vehicle that can do your job within the time available.
Methods and limits
Provider policies and published prices were checked on October 12, 2026. Taskrabbit's live search used Full Service Help Moving at 209 Joralemon Street in Brooklyn, a small task requiring a truck, the default "Within A Week" date filter, flexible time, and recommended sorting. Its first ten results are a convenience sample of listings, not a market average. Checkout required login, so the listing examples are not final invoices.
Lugg's live estimator used Brooklyn Borough Hall and Central Library as public test endpoints. Pickup and Van were each set to 30 estimated labor minutes. No service was booked. These estimates were not matched final quotes for an inspected couch, and they should not be used to calculate provider savings.
The Laborhutt request study retained 244 records after removing 11 repeated requests. At least one endpoint was within a verified NYC borough boundary. It includes all job statuses, not just completed moves. The four couch examples are a separate historical quote sample. Neither dataset represents all NYC movers or establishes differences caused by stairs, timing, or route.
