Get your Marketplace couch home in NYC before the seller needs it gone

The seller says "pickup only." You want the couch, but you still need a vehicle, someone to carry it, and a time that works for both of you.

Before promising you'll collect it, get the details needed to arrange the whole delivery. A truck arriving at the seller's building is one part of the job. The couch also has to leave their apartment, fit in the vehicle, and reach the room where you want it.

Laborhutt can price the move upfront and assign a mover after payment. Start with the seller's address, your address, and the couch details. Then confirm the carrying work and pickup window so everyone agrees on what is happening.

First ask the seller when the couch has to leave

"Available Saturday" is not enough if the seller has to be out by noon.

In one Laborhutt couch pickup conversation, the mover asked when the seller was available. The buyer later requested an arrival update because the seller needed to leave by 12. The buyer was coordinating a handoff between two people with different schedules.

Before booking, send the seller a message like this:

I'm arranging a mover to collect the couch. What pickup window works for you, and can you hold it until we confirm that window? Please also send the dimensions, your floor, and whether there's an elevator. Does the couch come apart, and will someone be there to let the mover in?

That gives you the information to organize the pickup without making a timing promise you cannot yet keep.

What a couch pickup can cost in NYC

Laborhutt's quote records include these examples for NYC couch requests, including moves that were not completed:

These quotes show why "one couch, a few miles" is not enough information to settle the price.

Get a quote for the actual addresses, furniture, access, and date. Use the total delivery price when deciding whether to buy the couch.

If the seller wants $150 and your delivery quote is $110, the couch costs you $260 to get home. If delivery is $209, the combined cost is $359. Those are illustrative calculations, not quotes for a particular Marketplace listing.

Find out what "pickup only" requires from you

The seller may be leaving the couch in their living room. They may expect the people collecting it to do all the lifting.

Ask whether it will be downstairs or still inside the apartment. Confirm whether any legs or sections need removing, and who will do that work. Share those answers with the mover.

One Marketplace buyer's booking notes described an elevator at the seller's building and a fourth-floor walk-up at the destination. Saying only "the building has an elevator" would have left out much of the delivery work.

Describe each address separately. If the couch needs two people to carry it, confirm that the arranged crew provides those two people. The seller should not become an unplanned member of the moving crew.

Send the measurements before the vehicle arrives

In another couch conversation, the mover asked for the size to check vehicle fit. The buyer explained that it was a pull-out couch and only the L-shaped section could detach. Before pickup, the mover asked whether that section was already separated.

That is the detail a Marketplace listing photo can miss.

Get the length, depth, and height. For a sectional, get measurements for each piece. Tell the mover if it is a sleeper or recliner, and send photos of the couch and any tight stairs or turns.

Check your own doorway and elevator too. You want to resolve the fit question while the couch is still with the seller.

If you cannot meet the seller, agree on the handoff

Confirm that the seller is comfortable releasing the couch to your mover. Give the mover the agreed contact and access instructions, and be reachable during pickup.

Decide in advance whether you want photos before loading and what should happen if the couch differs from the listing. Agree any inspection request with the mover before booking. Furniture collection should not leave the mover guessing whether you have approved the purchase.

Keep payment for the couch and payment for its delivery clear between everyone involved.

Give your Laborhutt the job you need done

A useful delivery request describes the entire route into your home:

“I bought one couch on Facebook Marketplace. Pickup is from an elevator building in Manhattan, and delivery is to my fourth-floor walk-up in Brooklyn. The seller is available Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. I need two movers, a suitable vehicle, and placement in my living room. I'll send dimensions and photos. Please confirm that the pickup window and carrying work are covered.”

This is an example you can adapt, not a customer's original message.

Laborhutt's booking flow asks for the pickup location, destination, and item sizes, then prices the move by date. You pay, and Laborhutt assigns a mover. Confirm the full scope and timing so the seller knows what to expect.

Once that is settled, you can give the seller a concrete pickup plan and decide whether the couch plus delivery fits your budget.
