A TaskRabbit alternative for Moving
Moving one couch or dresser? Compare TaskRabbit’s hourly fees and minimums with Laborhutt’s upfront pricing and real NYC customer totals.

A $53.68 hourly moving rate can look like a good deal. In one NYC TaskRabbit checkout we inspected, that listing became $73.44 per hour after the displayed Trust & Support fee. With its two-hour minimum, the starting cost was $146.88 before any applicable tax or optional tip.
If you’re moving one couch, that minimum matters.
For a couch pickup, dresser delivery, or a few bulky items, start with Laborhutt. Its current booking flow gives you an upfront price for your move before payment, then assigns a mover. You can consider the furniture and delivery costs together before committing to the purchase.
Here is how to compare the two using actual NYC pricing research.
The hourly rate on a TaskRabbit listing is only part of the calculation
On October 10, 2026, we inspected 55 NYC listings in TaskRabbit’s Truck Assisted Help Moving category and two checkout price breakdowns.
The checkout examples showed:

These were checkout previews, not completed bookings. The totals exclude any applicable tax or optional tip. Stanislav’s listing included one mover and a Sprinter van. Marlon’s profile said pricing depended on the job’s scope.
The displayed fee added about 36.8% to the advertised hourly rate in both examples. That is an observation from those two quotes, not a universal TaskRabbit fee percentage.
TaskRabbit’s official documentation describes a Service Fee and a Trust & Support fee. Our previews showed the hourly rate and Trust & Support, with no separate Service Fee line. Compare the total shown at checkout instead of adding another assumed percentage yourself.
A short pickup can still have a two-hour minimum
TaskRabbit’s hourly tasks have a one-hour minimum. Taskers can set a two-hour minimum, which must be disclosed. Beyond the minimum, time is billed in 15-minute increments. Minimum-hours policy.
In our 55-listing search, 33 listings carried a two-hour minimum badge.
For a hypothetical task that finishes in 45 minutes, a two-hour minimum still means paying for two hours. Using the checkout rates above, that would be $146.88 or $211.86 before any applicable tax or optional tip.
That does not make hourly moving help a bad choice. It means the minimum charge belongs in your comparison, especially when the entire job is one piece of furniture.
Compare the truck and crew as well as the price

Across our truck-assisted sample, the median advertised rate was $98.07 per hour. Thirty-nine of the 55 listings fell between $70 and $120 per hour.
Those listings offered different amounts of help. Some included one mover and a van. One $154.86 hourly listing included two movers and a large van. Calling all of those prices “per mover” would be misleading.
Before comparing a TaskRabbit booking with a Laborhutt quote, confirm:
- Whether the vehicle fits your furniture and is included.
- How many movers will carry the item, and whether you are expected to help.
- Whether pickup and delivery include stairs and placement in the final room.
- Whether disassembly or reassembly is part of the agreed work.
A one-mover booking and a two-mover booking are different services. A lower number is useful only if the booked help can complete your move.
TaskRabbit’s policy says vehicle use, gas, travel, stairs, parking, and tolls must be accounted for in the Tasker’s hourly rate, rather than charged separately as expenses. Confirm the scope, but do not assume those costs should be added again.
Why start with Laborhutt for a small furniture move
Laborhutt asks for your pickup address, destination, and item sizes, then prices your move by date. After payment, Laborhutt assigns a mover. Get a Laborhutt quote.
For someone buying a couch across town, a quoted delivery total helps answer the purchase question. Can you afford the couch and the move together?
You can also describe the actual carrying work before the pickup. Include the couch dimensions, stairs at both addresses, elevator access, and any parts that need to come off. Confirm the crew and vehicle, and check that the quoted scope covers getting the furniture into its final room.
This is why we recommend checking Laborhutt first for a small furniture move. Get the price for your job, then compare it with TaskRabbit’s fee-inclusive rate multiplied by the expected hours or minimum charge, whichever is greater.
What NYC customers have paid through Laborhutt
Laborhutt’s recorded completed NYC jobs include:

In a sample of 10 completed NYC moves involving one named furniture item, recorded customer totals ranged from $55 to $165. The average was $112.75.
These are past Laborhutt jobs, not current quotes or the same moves tested in Lugg’s calculator. They give you examples of what customers paid. Get a fresh price for your own route and date before choosing.
Check whether your Lugg delivery already has a fixed price
Some qualifying deliveries from Lugg partner stores use a fixed price confirmed at booking, with no per-minute labor charge. Eligibility depends on the store, location, and stops. Lugg says two or more non-partner stops return the move to standard pricing. Lugg’s partner-store pricing rules.
If your booking shows a final price, compare that amount with Laborhutt’s quote for the same work. The per-minute example above does not apply to every Lugg delivery.
For a standard couch move, compare the full Lugg estimate using realistic labor time with Laborhutt’s upfront price. Match the crew, vehicle, and carrying requirements. The cheaper number only helps if it gets the couch all the way into your home.
